THE EMPEROR’S BIRTHDAY
Japan, 2005, (in post-production)
Each year the public is invited behind the gates of the Emperor’s palace for his annual appearance and birthday speech. This short features a small group of Uyoku (right-wing members) Seishinjuku, as they bid him a birthday wish and proceed cross-town to protest a meeting of anti-imperialists. THE EMPEROR’S BIRTHDAY includes footage of their visit to Tokyo’s controversial Yasukuni shrine. The shrine houses remains of class A war criminals and Prime Minister Koizumi’s visits to the shrine cull protest from China and Korea. During an interview at Yasukuni with the group’s leader, Igarashi, he reveals some Uyoku philosophy plus his own thoughts on Koizumi, Japanese culture and the key to World Peace. |

THE RAZOR
Japan, 2006 (in pre-production)
Based on a short story by Japanese writer Shiga Naoya(1883-1971), The Razor(1910) tells the story of a barber with a no-nick shaving record and a compulsion for perfection. On a day when he is deathly sick and has no competent staff at hand, our barber may taint more than just his pure white sheet of pride. |
